2009 Tour of California LIVE on Eurosport
Submitted by pete geyer on Wed, 01/28/2009 - 09:09

Paris (cyclingfans.com) - Lance Armstrong's comeback continues to have a positive impact on broadcast coverage of pro road racing.
Following our announcement that Versus in the U.S. will be showing the 2009 Amgen Tour of California LIVE (including, for the first time, on weekdays), we can now announce that Eurosport will also have live coverage of the event which will be Armstrong's second race of the season (after the recently completed Tour Down Under).
Eurosport ads are announcing complete live coverage of the Tour of California from February 14-22, with broadcast start times from 23:00 CET (California is 9 hours behind Paris).
Eurosport headquarters in Paris confirmed to me via phone this afternoon that they will indeed have live coverage, though they would only confirm Stages 1 and 2 at this time. But I think we're going to get the entire week. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, during a Skype internet phone call I had with them last week, Universal Sports (formerly WCSN) didn't sound like they would be showing the 2009 Tour of California. Race organizer AEG is offering non-exclusive broadcast rights and Universal Sports, which will be putting more effort into its TV channel and less into internet streaming, felt the price was too high.
As announced previously, AEG and Tour de France organizer A.S.O. signed a deal last June that involves A.S.O. helping with international distribution of the Tour of California. Armstrong's return may have sealed the deal on live coverage.
Finally, I have also confirmed that there will once again be Tour of California live streaming video for those who want or need to watch via the internet.

UCI Cyclocross World Cup - Milan - LIVE
Submitted by admin on Sun, 01/25/2009 - 08:11Update: Race is playing on cycling.tv (UCI subscription) and on Sporza here (heavy buffering).
UCI Cyclocross World Cup - Milan - LIVE today on cycling.tv.
Today's race in Milan is the 9th and last leg of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Mathematically, Belgian national champion Sven Nys has the World Cup wrapped up given his 88-point lead over Bart Wellens and the fact that a victory today will bring the winner 80 points. So most everyone is likely already looking ahead to next Sunday's (February 1) Cyclo-cross World Championships in Hoogerheide, The Netherlands.
As an indication of the place Sven Nys now holds in the Belgium sports world, consider this: He recently was selected Belgian sportsman of the year, winning head of, among others, 2008 Tour of Flanders winner and Belgian national road race champion Stijn Devolder. With this season's Cyclo-cross World Cup already wrapped up, he will be thinking ahead to next week's World Championships for sure.
You'll find more information about this event here. Start list here.
This event should also be available in some markets on Sporza.
Race should stream live on Sporza here.
Also check: Sporza here (QuickTime) and here (Real Player).
Other possibilities include Sporza (QuickTime) and Sporza (Real Player).
Expected start time: Around 14:55 CET (8:55am U.S. Eastern)

Submitted by admin on Tue, 01/20/2009 - 11:18
Notes: (latest notes always appear at the top) - Please visit our homepage for the latest Tour Down Under live coverage info. and archive video clips. - While we wait for the Stage 6 live video, our growing list of Tour Down Under video clips below captures some of the TDU atmosphere, racing action and thoughts by Lance Armstrong and other riders. We'll add Stage 2 video clips in the morning. - Speaking of the Tour of California, you'll find ToC and other racing wallpapers in our wallpapers section. - If you are joining us for the first time, we are in our 5th year of tracking live internet coverage throughout the pro road racing season. For most races, we have live streaming video (including every stage of stage races) so this Tour Down Under is unusual in that live video will not be available until Stage 6. We hope you'll stick around all season long because there will be many, many days of live video coverage from races big and small, including next month's Amgen Tour of California. Speaking of the ToC, it already has established itself as an important race and moved the season start earlier in the year. The Tour Down Under has moved the season start even earlier for many riders, fans and journalists. - Updated link for Triple M Radio, which should also be providing live race updates and live coverage from the finish line. - Tour Down Under Stage 2 is now underway. Robbie McEwen, who injured his arm during the sprint finish of stage 1 when it struck a spectator's camera, is going to "race through the pain." Also according to a radio reporter for ABC Adelaide, the peloton departed under cooler temperatures, something that will be much appreciated. Stage 2 Profile - click graphic for details - More updates to come after the inauguration of Barack Obama which you can watch online here. (preliminary coverage already streaming) - The Tour Down Under Stage 2 from Hahndorf to Stirling begins at 11am local time Wednesday. (01:30 CET Wednesday, 7:30pm U.S. Eastern TUESDAY). The distance is 145km (90 miles). - We will post and update new guides with the latest info and links each day of the race. - Tour Down Under live race coverage will be limited to live internet radio and text tickers until Stage 6 when live streaming video will also become available.
