Notes from the 2020 Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista del Sol

- Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott), second overall at the race finish: "It is a great feeling to move up to second overall especially going into the TT in third place and not really expecting to move up. It is a great start to the season. If you would have told me I would come away with second place before the race then I would have been incredibly happy. Even with the little mishap the other day in the final, it has still been an incredible week and the guys have done an amazing job helping me everyday. For the new guys in the team Alex Konychev and Andrey Zeits, it was their first stage race with us and I think it worked really well."

- Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott) following his Stage 4 victory: "Taking the win against Fuglsang and Landa is quite important to me, they are the sort of riders I want to try and become, true Grand Tour contenders. So to be up there with them today was a really nice feeling and a reassuring feeling knowing I am heading in the right direction.  fter yesterday’s disappointment and being consistently up there in Valencia and after the first stages, to get the win was really really nice."

- Results: Stage Results here.

- Race leader Jakob Fuglsang (Astana Pro Team) won Stage 3.

- Gonzalo Serrano (Caja Rural–Seguros RGA) won Stage 2.  Jakob Fuglsang (Astana Pro Team) remains overall leader.

- Dylan Teuns (Team Bahrain-McLaren) following Stage 2, where he finished third: "I’m third again! the team did a really good job but climbing in the last km I made a mistake not to follow Sonny Colbrelli. The good news is that I still have good legs, and the condition is good. I’ll try to win a stage."

- Gorazd Štangelj (Sport director, Team Bahrain-McLaren): "Even today we had a good race and kept the break under control. Mark Padun did a great job to get the attackers back. We have found a stronger rider than us, but this is how we work, and sooner or later we will find victory. Tomorrow the stage will be tough mainly because there are some initial climbs and it is very likely that there will be attacks, we will have to keep our eyes wide open."

- Jakob Fuglsang (Astana Pro Team) won Stage 1 and is first leader in the general classification.

- Team Bahrain-McLaren roster for the 2020 Ruta del Sol:

Mikel Landa
Pello Bilbao
Damiano Caruso
Sonny Colbrelli
Ivan Cortina
Matej Mohoric
Dylan Teuns

- Gorazd Štangelj (Team Bahrain-McLaren directeur sportif): "Compared to the Volta Valenciana there is no a real uphill finish, but some stages end downhill and therefore those who are left behind climbing can recover. I think the final ITT will have a lot of twist and turns will decide the GC. We have a very competitive team with the leader Landa, but also Bilbao and Teuns who have shown that they are doing well. Then there are Mohoric and Caruso and two fast wheels like Cortina and Colbrelli."
