Before the men's race teams presentation on Thursday, June 24, 2021, Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme introduced the 11 activist women of the 2021 edition of "Donnons des Elles au Vélo J-1" as "the 24th team of the Tour de France," (there are 23 men's teams in the race), presented them with official bib numbers complete with their names printed on them and credited the team for convincing organizer ASO to bring back a women's Tour de France, the Tour de France Femmes set to launch in 2022. - The 2023 Tour de France (July 1-23) sees its "Grand Depart" in Bilbao, in the Basque Country in Spain. The 9 women selected for the 2023 edition of Donnons des Elles au Vélo J-1 will be riding the full route of the men's TDF day ahead of the race, thus June 30-July 22. Donnons des Elles au Vélo is the women's cycling movement that convinced TDF organizer ASO to bring back an official women's Tour de France, the Tour de France Femmes. I am founding sponsor and advisor for this amazing group of women and this is Year 9 of the project. -Pete Geyer

- Success! An official Women's Tour de France will return in 2022, 33 years after the last edition, in 1989. The race will be called the Tour de France Femmes, last 8 days in its first edition, and will start on the last day of the 2022 Men's Tour de France. TDF race director Christian Prudhomme, in a ceremony introducing the 11 women of the 2021 Donnons des Elles au Vélo J-1, directly attributed the new Tour de France Femmes to the activism of Donnons des Elles au Vélo.

2021 Tour de France Stage 21 Profile

15 women, true ambassadors for women's cycling and for all of cycling, will ride the entire route of the 2020 Tour de France. Unlike in the previous five years, they will ride one month ahead of the TDF instead of the usual day ahead, due to COVID-19. Also due to the coronavirus, two of the 15 women were unable to travel to France for the ride.

- Note: For this 8th edition of DDEAV J-1, the team is starting off by riding stages 2-4 of the inaugural Tour de France Femmes in place of the 3 opening TDF stages in Denmark. This is a nod to the return of the first official women's Tour de France in 33 years. From day 4, they will then be riding the France stages of the Tour de France one day ahead of the men's race.

- The 2022 Women's Tour de France Ride is being held June 30-July 23.

Notes from the 2019 Women's Tour de France Route Ride

- The team will be selling replica Donnons des Elles au Vélo J-1 jerseys at the finish in Paris.

- The women are now in the third and final week, heading towards the Alps.  They will arrive at the finish in Paris on Saturday afternoon.  If you are in Paris, come and welcome them as they get off their bikes at the Arc de Triomphe!  The embedded GPS tracker will show you where they are at any particular moment during a stage.  If you have a bike, consider joining them for the amazing arrival on the Champs-Elysees.  Even though the roads will not be closed, unlike for the Tour de France itself, the peloton accompanying the women will take up the entire width of the road (in the direction of traffic) as it rides the great avenue to the Arc.

- In 2019, 13 ambassadors for women's cycling and for all of cycling will once again ride the full route of Tour de France.  They ride for the return of a Women's Tour de France (Tour de France Féminin) and for women's cycling awareness.  This highly and widely acclaimed project received global media coverage in 2018 and earned recognition from the European Parliament and the United Nations.  The women set out in Brussels on Friday, July 5 and arrive at the finish on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris on Saturday, July 27.

- Sunday, July 21, is the second and final rest day for the women riding the 2019 Tour de France route day ahead of the men's race.  Their efforts continue Monday with Stage 16.

- Monday, July 15, is the first rest day for the women riding the 2019 Tour de France route day ahead of the men's race.  Their efforts continue Tuesday with Stage 11.

- The 2019 Women's Tour de France Ride is being held July 5-27.
