Petacchi is back:  I took the photo above in the town of Montargis, site of today's TDF Stage 5 finish, at the finish of Stage 1 of the 2004 Paris-Nice.  It shows the official event poster featuring Alessandro Petacchi, then with Fassa Bortolo, winner of yesterday's Tour stage.  Why was Petacchi featured on the poster?  Well, he won a stage in the 2003 Paris-Nice.  Now a single stage win wouldn't ordinarily earn you such a prominent place in the next year's poster.  But Petacchi followed that Paris-Nice stage win with a whopping 6 stage wins in the 2003 Giro d'Italia and then 4 stage wins in the 2003 Tour de France.  And as if that wasn't enough, he won 5 stages in the 2003 Vuelta a Espana!  Petacchi was the dominant sprinter then, taking over for Mario Cipollini.  Now, in 2010, Petacchi with two stage wins thus far seems to have turned back the clock.  -Pete
