Race leader Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) was the day's big loser, losing the red jersey
after crashing and watching his rivals ride on. Valverde nonetheless limited his losses,
arriving 55 seconds after the Froome/Contador group. Joaquim Rodriguez is new race leader.
