- The Dauphine is a popular warm-up race for the Tour de France.  Bradley Wiggins (Sky Procycling) won the 2011 edition and is back to defend.  2011 runner-up Cadel Evans will also be back.  Both 2011 TDF champ Evans and Wiggins will of course have their sights set on the Tour.  The Tour this year is loaded with time trial kilometers, including a big 53.5km TT on the day before the race finish.  The Dauphine also features a 53.5km TT on Stage 4.  Wiggins and Evans faced off at the Tour of Romandy in late April, with Wiggins winning the final stage time trial and the overall.  In March, Wiggins won Paris-Nice while Evans won the Criterium International.  How deep will they want to dig at the Dauphine this year with the Tour just weeks away?  One thing is sure, all eyes will be on Evans and Wiggins in an attempt to gauge their form, particularly in the time trials.  Of course, we cannot forget Andy Schleck (RadioShack-Nissan) who just days ago was presented with a yellow jersey for his title in the 2010 Tour de France, stripped from Alberto Contador over a doping offense.  Other riders expected on the start line include Vincenzo Nibali (Liquigas-Cannondale), Alexandre Vinokourov and Janez Brajkovic (Astana), Jurgen Van Den Broeck (Lotto-Belisol), Denis Menchov (Katusha), Thomas Voeckler and Pierre Rolland (Europcar), David Moncoutie (Cofidis), Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Christophe Le Mevel, David Millar and Daniel Martin (Garmin-Barracuda), Tony Martin and Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEdge)...  In other words, the Dauphine is THE Tour de France warm-up this year... -Pete
