- Nick Nuyens (Saxo Bank) won the 2011 edition but is out, recovering from an injury suffered at Paris-Nice.  2011 runner-up Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) is in form, having just won the Three Days of De Panne.  Did Chavanel dig too deep to win at De Panne?  Well, he rode strongly at the 2011 De Panne as well, then finished second at the Tour of Flanders.  The big favorites are Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quickstep) who won Flanders in 2005 and 2006 and Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Nissan), the winner in 2010.  Boonen has shown he is back to form with his victories at the Tour of Qatar, Stage 2 of Paris-Nice, E3 Harelbeke and last week's Gent-Wevelgem.  Cancellara won the 2012 Strade Bianche and a time trial at Tirreno-Adriatico and finished second at Milan-San Remo.  Two-time winner Stijn Devolder (Vacansoleil) is looking to repeat his successes of 2008 and 2009.  Alessandro Ballan (BMC Racing) won in 2007.  The impressive field also includes, among others: Gilbert, Hincapie, Hushovd, Terpstra, Greipel, Boasson Hagen, Eisel, Flecha, Goss, Freire, Petacchi, Sagan, Bodnar, Farrar, Haussler, Vansummeren, Vanmarcke, Bennati, Westra, Hoste, Pozzato, Degenkolb, Voeckler,...

- Sunday's Tour of Flanders departs Brugge at 10:00am CET (4:00am U.S. Eastern) and is expected at the finish at Oudenaarde at around 4:22pm CET (10:22am U.S. Eastern).  Tour of Flanders live streaming video should get underway at around *12:00pm CET (6:00am U.S. Eastern). *Sporza will be LIVE at the race start in Brugge from 9am CET through the official start, then again at 12:00pm CET with pre-coverage commentary.  Other feeds are expected to go live at around 12:20pm CET (6:20am U.S. Eastern), and still others a bit later.

Velo Magazine put Sylvain Chavanel on its April cover.  Good timing as Chavanel just won the Three Days of De Panne and would like to improve on his second place finish at Tour of Flanders in 2011, or help teammate Tom Boonen return to the top step of the Flanders podium
