- Tomorrow's Giro d'Italia Stage 7 departs Vasto at 12:15 CET (6:15am U.S. Eastern) and is expected to arrive in Pescocostanzo between 16:59 and 17:32 CET (10:59 and 11:32am U.S. Eastern).  Live coverage from cycling.tv and other sources should get underway starting at around 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).

- If you do download and install the free winamp player (see comment below), we recommend that during the installation/configuration of winamp that you un-check the options that make winamp your default media player, etc.  This way nothing changes on your system in terms of what media player is launched when you click on a link.  (Or if you do want to make winamp your default media player, then presumably you could watch video with that player and paste the audio URL into Windows Media Player...)  Today we are exploring another suggestion submitted by a reader/viewer that simplifies all of this without the need for multiple media players and plan to share this tomorrow....but having an excellent media player like winamp is a good idea anyway.

- Eurosport live coverage of the Giro d'Italia has begun.  Bob Schmidt's recommendation for watching NRK while listening to Eurosport UK live audio works like a charm.  Here again is his suggestion:  "Just a note to say that I am able to run the main NRK video feed in Windows media player and also copy/paste the Eurosport audio link into winamp .  That way I am getting excellent video and audio."  In other words, select NRK or another video stream from the list at right, then right-click* and copy ("copy shortcut," or "copy link location," etc. depending on your browser) the URL for the Eurosport English-language audio stream, then in the superb winamp media player select File/Play URL and paste the Eurosport link there.   *Windows users

Yesterday's chain failure wasn't the first time that David Millar has experienced a chain problem at a critical time in a Grand Tour.  During the 2003 Tour de France 6.5km prologue (photo above), Millar's chain slipped off as he approached the finish line, costing him the stage win.  An angry Millar blamed his directeur sportif for the lack of a front derailleur, causing the chain to slip.  Millar finished the prologue second to Bradley McGee by just 8 hundredths of a second.

- Today's Giro d'Italia Stage 6 departs Potenza at 10:15 CET (4:15am U.S. Eastern).   After consulting with riders, who have been unhappy about long transfer times after stages, the organizers have shortened the stage from 265km to 231.6km, eliminating a finishing circuit.  So according to the original schedule, the race is expected to arrive in Peschici between 16:02 and 16:41 CET (10:02 and 10:41am U.S. Eastern).  Giro d'Italia live internet webcasts should get underway on cycling.tv and other sources at around 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).
