- Tomorrow's Giro d'Italia Stage 3 starts at 11:50 CET (5:50am U.S. Eastern) and is expected to finish between 16:58 and 17:30 CET (10:58 and 11:30am U.S. Eastern).  Live Giro coverage on cycling.tv resumes tomorrow at 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).  Alternative live streams should begin then or shortly thereafter.

- Everyone back over to RAI now as NRK have left the Giro to broadcast a sports news program.

- An earlier breakaway at "Four Days" has been caught with about 9km to go.  Looks like they'll set up for a sprint finish.  Link to live stream below.

- Terrible blow for Slipstream Chipotle as David Zabriskie has crashed out of the Giro.

- Lots of people on the beaches of Dunkirk today at the "Four Days".

- NRK back to showing the Giro.

- If anyone wants to watch today's stage of the Giro and the final stage of Four Days of Dunkirk simultaneously, what works for us is to play the alternative RAI stream (embedded in its web page) and the Direct 8 stream (which opens in Windows Media Player separately).

- Live video streaming flash:  For the first time ever, Four Days of Dunkirk (final stage today) streaming live on French cable station Direct 8 here .  -Bernie S.

- So did all you NRK viewers switch over to RAI yet while NRK are showing horse racing?

- Slipstream Chipotle at the head of the Giro d'Italia peloton protecting the race lead of American Christian Vande Velde .  What a great story for the team of Jonathan Vaughters, still without a full title sponsor.

- Giro d'Italia live now on Rai Sport and NRK.

- Reminder:   cycling.tv is not showing Sunday stages of the Giro.

- Most Giro d'Italia video streams should go live today (Sunday) after 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).

- Today's Giro d'Italia Stage 2 begins at 11:40 CET (5:40am U.S. Eastern) and is expected to finish between 16:58 and 17:34 CET (10:58 and 11:34am U.S. Eastern).

- Yesterday's Giro d'Italia Stage 1 now archived and available at cycling.tv .  (As Live and Highlights for subscribers.   Sign Up )

- The Giro official site live video stream is here .  (Only about last 15 minutes of race each day.)

- Eurosport France commentator Jacky Durand likes the Astana team in this 2008 Giro d'Italia.  To be sure, this team is loaded with talent, including the first and third place finishers in last year's Tour de France, Spaniard Alberto Contador and American Levi Leipheimer plus German Andreas Kloden, fresh off his win last week at the Tour de Romandie and a TDF podium finisher a couple of times himself.  (And in our "Who will win?" poll, Astana teammates Kloden, Contador and Leipheimer are the top 3 vote getters so far.)   Indeed, correct us if we're wrong but none of the other contenders has ever finished in the top 3 of the Tour.  So on paper, especially given all the time trialing, this is Astana's race to lose.  But....as former IHT cycling journalist Samuel Abt often wrote with humor, races are rarely run on paper...  What kind of form do Contador and Leipheimer have right now?

- Ross reports that Eurosport UK audio feed not working for him.  It's not working for us at the moment either.  Is it working for anyone out there?

- Eurosport France audio feed now playing the Giro d'Italia live with Patrick Chasse and one of the world's best color commentators, Jacky Durand.

- It took awhile to get in but we finally are now able to watch on cycling.tv (English commentary with Anthony McCrossan and Brian Smith!)

- Thanks David for the alternative RAI live stream and thanks Dottie for an alternative NRK live stream!

- Thanks Barbara for confirming the original RAI stream we posted below works for her.

- Giro TTT also live on RAI  here .  -Bernie S.

- Giro TTT also live on NRK   here .  -Bernie S.

- Giro Team Time Trial now live on NRK  here .  -Bernie S.

- Giro d'Italia live video streaming flash:  A RAI stream is playing here .  -Bernie S., UK correspondent  (Not working for us in the U.S.  Is it playing for anyone else in the U.S.?)

- cycling.tv say they are now live with Stage 1 of the Giro d'Italia.  We have not yet been able to verify this because we are getting an error message...

- Coverage on Eurosport of today's stage of the Giro starts at 16:30 CET (10:30am U.S. Eastern).  Stay tuned for possible alternative live video streams.

- It usually takes a couple of days to get a full set of reliable live streams.  We update our Live Guides during each stage, every day of the race.  Our next update after 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).

- If you are in North America and would like English-language live and/or On Demand coverage of the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy), you have two options on cycling.tv , the Giro d'Italia/Italian Pro Cycling package or the Gold North America package (includes one year access to many other races in addition to the Giro and Italian races).  PayPal is accepted.   Sign Up

- It is strongly recommended that all cycling.tv subscribers log in to their accounts, and stay logged in, well before the stage coverage begins.

- For information on viewing the Giro via satellite, see our May 8 update below.

- cycling.tv is also showing 4 Jours de Dunkerque live today and tomorrow with a scheduled start time of 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).  This coverage, a first-ever internet webcast for this race, should be available worldwide, in Premium, Silver and Gold packages.  More Dunkirk links below.   (cycling.tv now saying their Dunkirk coverage will not be live.  But does anyone really care, with the Giro starting today?)

- Award-winning pro cycling photographer Fotoreporter Sirotti will be providing us with high quality, high resolution Giro photos every day of the race.  Some images will be posted same-day but images that show the stage winner will not be posted until the following day, so as to not spoil things for those of you who want to watch On Demand or race video clips without knowing who won ahead of time.

- Giro stage 1 start times posted below.

Coming Saturday morning:   2008 Giro d'Italia live coverage guide with live video, live audio and tickers
Giro d'Italia live video streaming

U.S.A. and Canada

cycling.tv is showing the race to viewers in North America.  If you would like to sign up for cycling.tv to watch the Giro, you have two options:  the Giro d'Italia/Italian Pro Cycling package or the Gold North America package (includes one year access to many other races in addition to the Giro and Italian races).   PayPal is accepted.   Sign Up

cycling.tv strongly recommend that you sign up well before race start time and that you login in advance.  While they can handle thousands of viewers simultaneously, race-time administration of new subscriptions and sign-ins taxes the servers.

We expect to have other sources for live video streaming (in languages other than English) for those of you who cannot or do not want to subscribe to cycling.tv .  Even those of you who do subscribe to cycling.tv may find these alternative streams useful on occasion, particularly on the Sunday stages since cycling.tv will not be showing Sunday stages live.  Geo-restrictions unknown at this time but at minimum we expect a live stream on the Giro official website as in previous years.

Rest of the world

We expect to have several options for watching the Giro d'Italia live over the internet.  Tune in Saturday morning.

The first team is scheduled to depart at 15:30 CET (9:30am U.S. Eastern).  The last team should arrive at the finish at around 17:50 CET (11:50am U.S. Eastern).

Giro live coverage on cycling.tv is scheduled to begin tomorrow at 15:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern).  If this broadcast time is accurate, we assume there will be a pre-race show of some sort since the listed time is 30 minutes before race start time.

Giro d'Italia Live Video Coverage Preview

The 2008 Giro d'Italia, the season's first Grand Tour, starts on Saturday.  For the 4th consecutive year, we will be listing available internet TV webcasts, live video streams, live audio feeds, and live tickers and graphics for this great three-week event.  We'll have the schedules, start and finish times, start lists and so forth.  As always, we will update our "Live Guides" throughout each stage every day of the race.  We will also once again be listing post-race video clips and archives.  So even if you cannot watch the race live, you can watch video clip highlights as available.  And starting today, we'll have daily photos from our collaborating cycling photographer, the great Fotoreporter Sirotti , already on site for the pre-race photo opportunities.

Giro via internet streaming

For the U.S. and Canada markets, cycling.tv is once again teaming with Versus to offer Giro live television coverage.  They will be showing the race over the internet each day except for Sundays when the race will be shown on the Versus network.

cycling.tv will be the best option for those of you in North America who want live English-language video streaming.  However, as in past years we do expect there to be alternative streams, notably in Italian, available via Rai Sport and the Giro official website.  We will list these and any other alternative live streams that are available.

Eurosport is broadcasting the Giro live, so we will list any available Eurosport live video and audio feeds.

For those of you outside North America, most or all of the live video feeds we list (minus cycling.tv) should be available to you.

Giro TV

Something new this year called Giro TV will be available in multiple languages starting May 8.  There will be four channels dedicated to showing some aspects of the Giro not typically shown on television, such as the race caravan and behind the scenes footage.

Giro via satellite

For those of you with satellite access, we'll provide information to assist you in following the Giro d'Italia via satellite.  (RAI Sport)
