You can win!
Eddy Merckx Paris-Roubaix victories poster
Eddy Merckx Paris-Roubaix victories poster

Cycling great Eddy Merckx won Paris-Roubaix three times, in 1968, 1970 and 1973.  The above-pictured poster, which commemorates all three Merckx victories in the "Hell of the North," including his win in 1968 wearing the rainbow jersey as world champion, was donated to cyclingfans.com by the artist at the start of Paris-Roubaix in Compiègne last week.   This superb poster will be among the prizes you can win here at cyclingfans.com during the Tour de Georgia which runs through April 27.  So, stick around and you can win!   (U.S. residents only are eligible to win the Eddy Merckx poster.)

Note:  We'll also tell you how you can get your hands on a Paris-Roubaix mini replica cobblestone trophy for your desk.  Great conversation piece!

Is Rock Racing Good for Pro Cycling?

As AP Sports Writer Tim Reynolds reports , people seem to either love or hate the Rock Racing pro cycling team.  They brought style, their own podium girls, and Mario Cipollini to the Tour of California.  They also brought riders such as Tyler Hamilton, previously suspended for blood doping, and Santiago Botero and Oscar Sevilla who were reportedly linked to the Operation Puerto doping scandal.  Controversially, Hamilton, Botero and Sevilla were not allowed to race in California.  But they are being allowed to race this week at the Tour de Georgia.

Some argue that Rock Racing is good for the sport because they are getting people's attention and in theory will help provide a much-needed boost to the sport, bringing in new fans.  Others argue that the last thing cycling needs right now is more controversy and have been critical of Rock Racing team owner Michael Ball for signing Hamilton, despite the fact that he has served his suspension, Botero and Sevilla.

A Wedding on Mont Ventoux
Happy Anniversary, Barry and Dawn!

Chicago (cyclingfans.com) - Tour de France champions such as Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Lance Armstrong climbed Mont Ventoux on their way to Tour glory.

Cyclingfans.com reader Barry Johnson, who works for former USPS and Discovery Channel cycling team sponsor Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), climbed Mont Ventoux to get to his wedding!  More (text and photos)

Barry first contacted cyclingfans.com asking where one can find official pro race event posters.  So we're sending him a rare 2001 Grand Prix des Nations official event poster featuring Lance Armstrong as the reigning champion.  (Past winners of this prestigious race against the clock (2004 was the last year it was held) also include Jacques Anquetil (9 times!), Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault (5 times), Laurent Fignon, Chris Boardman, and Jens Voigt).

Barry and Dawn, thanks again for sharing your story.  Happy Anniversary!

- Unbelievable Paris-Roubaix-like "roads" in wet weather they are riding on at Tro Bro Leon.  (We've got Amstel Gold Race playing in one window and Tro Bro Leon in another window.)

- Eurosport France also has Tro Bro Leon here with Jacky Durand commentating. -Bernie

- Meanwhile, in France, Tro Bro Leon video streaming coverage on France 3 television is now  LIVE  as well here .  Should be viewable worldwide.  -Bernie

- Live video streaming flash:  Eurosport UK with Sean Kelly commentating  LIVE  now here .

- WOW.  Even if you do not have Microsoft Silverlight, check out this Amstel Gold Race live coverage here .  Scroll that page down past the dynamic graphics of today's race and click on the little video camera icons on the map to see historical video clips of Amstel Gold Race.  Nicely done.  (Thanks again, Roger.)

- Amstel Gold Race on Dutch TV (NOS) can also be watched live here (full experience appears to require Microsoft Silverlight , Microsoft's answer to Adobe's Flash/Flex used in the Tour de Georgia live Tour Tracker, etc.)  (Thanks for sharing this, Roger!)

- Amstel Gold Race Dutch TV live video stream here .  (Netherlands only?)  (Thanks, Frank in The Netherlands!)

- Official Site GPS Tracker (using ChampionChip system) is here .

- Live video coverage of the 2008 Amstel Gold Race has begun on cycling.tv .  Commentator Anthony McCrossan just said their coverage of Amstel Gold Race is "worldwide and free".

- Amstel Gold Race live video coverage on cycling.tv begins at 14:00 CET (8am U.S. Eastern).

- We expect there to be some Eurosport live video streaming available in at least some markets starting at around 15:15 CET (9:15am U.S. Eastern).  Looks like Eurosport UK will be showing snooker instead of Amstel Gold Race.

- Amstel Gold Race starts at 10:21 CET (4:21am U.S. Eastern) and is expected to finish at around 16:47 CET (10:47am U.S. Eastern).
