de France photography than L'Equipe and its

Armstrong , Merckx, Hinault , Anquetil

of the Tour de France are here in this box set of L'Equipe photos.

. To be considered,
picks must be sent in no later than 2:30pm U.S. Eastern (20:30 CET).
In the event of multiple winning picks, we will select
at random the individual who will win this box set of Tour de France
photos. One pick per person please. Good luck!
- Yesterday's Tour de Georgia individual time trial
saw American Levi Leipheimer of Discovery Channel
taking the win ahead of David Zabriskie (Team CSC) and Nathan
O'Neill (Health Net presented by Maxxis). Thomas Danielson
(Discovery Channel) was fourth, followed by Dominique Cornu
(Predictor-Lotto), David Millar (Saunier Duval-Prodir),
Danny Pate (Team Slipstream), George
Hincapie (Discovery Channel), Brian Vandborg
(Discovery Channel) and Ben Day , rounding out the
top 10, of Navigators Insurance Cycling Team.
Janez Brajkovic of Discovery Channel finished the time
trial in 11th place which was good enough to take the overall race
lead, just 12 seconds ahead of Christian Vandevelde (Team CSC).
Rubens Bertogliati (Saunier Duval-Prodir) is third
overall at 1:22 heading into today's stage to Brasstown Bald Mountain.
- Tour de Georgia live video streaming has begun with
the start of today's tough stage to Brasstown Bald Mountain
. Such live coverage virtually never happens from the stage
start with races in Europe. Of course, there is no audio
at the moment, the video stream is low resolution, and jumpy, but it's
better than nothing. Let's hope this race is around next year.
Let the sponsors know you appreciated having some coverage and
maybe it will be.
- Stage 5 of the Tour de Georgia will begin

- Yesterday's Stage 3 of the Tour de Georgia, won by
Gianni Meersman of Discovery Channel, really
shook things up in the race for the overall. As David Canada
(Saunier Duval-Prodir) put on the jersey of race leader, the peloton
which contained all the pre-race favorites like Tom Danielson
and Levi Leipheimer came in a whopping 29 minutes behind
the time of Meersman. The favorites will now have to look for
stage wins in today's individual time trial and tomorrow's stage to
Brasstown Bald Mountain.

- Tour de Georgia "live" video streaming: Yesterday's

see how it goes today.

Live Ticker
- Wednesday's Stage 3 of the Tour de Georgia gets underway
at 12pm U.S. Eastern (18:00 CET)
- Race audio commentary has kicked in. A little
rough at the moment...
- At roughly 3:30pm U.S. Eastern (21:30 CET), the Tour
de Georgia live video stream finally kicked in. So we have
video but no audio commentary at the moment. The "Race Radio"
audio stream (separate from race commentary) supposedly will kick
in during the last hour of the race.
- Tour de Georgia Tour Tracker update: As of
1:10pm U.S. Eastern (19:10 CET), the video cameras at the Tour de
Georgia are "not rolling at all" according to Adobe. Thus,
no live streaming video yet. (Thanks for the update, Allan.) Stay
tuned...
- Race news: At
Paris-Camembert
today, Sébastien Joly (Française des
Jeux) took the win ahead of Anthony Charteau and Benoit Vaugrenard.
This race isn't what it used to be and hasn't had much publicity
since Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow were there in
2005... (Paris-Camembert doesn't actually start in Paris...but
then, it doesn't finish in Camembert either!) It was at Paris-Camembert
in 2005 that Armstrong announced he would make an important announcement
at that year's Tour de Georgia (his retirement following
the Tour de France). French sports daily L'EQUIPE
naturally had to send a reporter to Georgia in the middle of the
spring classics in Europe and weren't happy about it.
- Stage 2 of the Tour de Georgia is underway. The
broadcast team is getting set up to bring you live video. Meanwhile,
the Cyclingnews ticker has gone live.
- Daniele Contrini (Tinkoff Credit Systems) won yesterday's
stage one and is thus race leader.
Stage 1 Live Coverage Problems
Explained
It was frustrating, to say the least, following the race
yesterday via the Tour de Georgia Tour Tracker
. Some of you may have seen a little live video here and there,
heard a little live audio here and there. For others, not a
frame of video was seen, not a blip of audio was heard.
Cyclingfans.com checked in with Adobe, developer
of the Tour Tracker, post-race to find out what went wrong with the
first-day race coverage.
First of all, understand that the problems were as frustrating
for those trying to bring you the race as it was for cycling fans
trying to follow along. Also, it bears repeating that never before
has live race coverage tried to do so much.
(Some might argue too much, while others are happy with all the
information...when it is all available.) The organizers of the
Tour of California and
Tour de Georgia have literally left Tour de France organizer
Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) in the Paris-Roubaix dust in
this department. Giro d'Italia organizer RCS Sport at
least makes some low bandwidth live video streams available
each year on its web site. For ASO, organizer of the biggest and
richest event in the sport, live coverage on the internet still means
text updates.
So what were the problems in yesterday's stage 1 of the
Tour de Georgia? Adobe told cyclingfans.com that there was
no audio or video available for the first half of the stage
simply because the broadcasters were not broadcasting
. Then, during the first half of the remainder of the race,
the broadcast truck had no internet connection
. We all know what that's like. Then, once the truck got
connected to the internet, the production team may have used the
wrong video encoding settings . Live and learn. Adding
to those problems, the servers hosting the Tour
Tracker were overwhelmed , resulting perhaps in half of cycling
fans never seeing anything at all and coverage dropping out for those
who had seen something. The server hosts have promised to fix
that according to Adobe.
Now if those issues can be addressed for today's Stage 2,
Adobe is confident that its Tour Tracker application is ready to
bring you the race. Look for an interview with the man
behind the Tour Tracker, a cyclist himself, right here later this week...

Notes:
- Tour de Georgia Tour Tracker update: We just
contacted Adobe who tell us that audio
is not being sent to the broadcast truck. More info as we get
it...
- The Tour de Georgia Tour Tracker is slowly starting
to come to life, though we have yet to see any live video or hear any
audio. This is a very sophisticated, "bleeding edge" application
that needs to access and integrate all kinds of multimedia information
in real time, attempting to do what no one has yet done to this
extent and with this level of integration with live cycling coverage
on the internet . We must be patient, they will get things
working. We regret though that in the meantime there is no plain
vanilla live video stream outside the context of
the Tour Tracker. We will ask if something like that can be arranged.
Stay tuned...
- The 2007 Tour de Georgia is underway but we
are waiting for the live video. Meanwhile,
France's controversial anti-doping lab, the Laboratoire National
de Dépistage du Dopage (LNDD) began re-testing the samples
of 2006 Tour de France (and Tour de Georgia) winner Floyd Landis for
about the hundredth time today; they
reportedly
will spend about 10 days on it. Is Jerry Lewis
still working at LNDD?
- We have just added the Velonews Tour de Georgia
live ticker to our Live Guide.
- The Versus 2007 Paris-Roubaix highlights and interviews
are now up, available via our archive video clips section
above. Also, you can re-live portions of the 2006 Tour de Georgia.
- It is now 12:36pm U.S. Eastern (18:36 CET) and the
2007 Tour de Georgia should get underway in
less than 30 minutes.
- We have added the cyclingnews live ticker to
our Tour de Georgia Live Guide. More links to come...
- Our next Tour de Georgia race update here, with
more links and info, will be before the race start.
- For those of you joining us here for the first time:
