Notes: Another win yesterday for
Alejandro Valverde. Valverde's teammate Aitor Osa is still race
leader. Today's stage is split with a morning stage followed by
what should be a decisive time trial in the afternoon. Can American
Bobby Julich make it three for three?

Notes: Today's final stage finishes with
a circuit in Le Mans involving 4 trips up the Gazonfier climb this afternoon.
At 18% grade, a lot of riders with nothing to gain will drop out
of the race after 1-3 trips up this thing. Mercifully the climb is
only 300 meters long. Note the stairs on the sidewalks to help pedestrians,
in photo below.
Sylvain Chavanel of Cofidis is race leader going into this final
stage. Discovery Channel has 4 of its 5 riders in the top 11 all
within 20 seconds of Chavanel and is thus the team best positioned to attack
the race leader. With only 5 teammates, can Chavanel successfully
control the race? Can Discovery Channel blow the race apart on the
Côte de Gazonfier and get a rare 2005 win? As steep as the climb
is, it is short and it won't be easy getting rid of a rider of Chavanel's
class.

Guide to live
race coverage on the Internet
Tom Boonen is perhaps the big favorite, two-time
winner Peter Van Petegem has the experience. Discovery Channel has
a very strong team for this race, including: George Hincapie, Stijn Devolder,
Viatcheslav Ekimov, Roger Hammond, Leif Hoste and Lance Armstrong. Former
Flanders winner (and now retired rider) Jacky Durand, beginning a new career
as commentator on Eurosport France, has called Discovery Channel the strongest
team in the race on paper.
