Notes:
The UCI Track Cycling World Championships are live
here
. It is the same link as yesterday's so the page
says it's day 3 but the coverage is in fact for today's final day of
the championships, day 4.
- Okay, we are starting to regret unleashing the Babel Fish
translation on this race...
- Here are the links again for the "Brabantine Arrow"
race in Belgium but this time with automatic Babel Fish translation
from Dutch to English. This ought to be fun.
- Versus (OLN) is showing Criterium International highlights
today, for those of you in the U.S. Check our Versus schedule
link and your local listings.
- In France, France 3 is showing the end of this afternoon's
Criterium International time trial live. That broadcast begins
at 15:45 CET (9:45am U.S. Eastern), in about 5 minutes. We should
have a France 3 video clip later. Sport+ in France is showing
La Fleche Brabanconne .
- We're back. That was quite some stage this morning
at the Criterium International. A real shame
that with all those big names racing that no broadcaster had it live,
though it was rather early. Here are two tickers for the De
Brabantse Pijl race in Belgium which is on now. (The French
call this La Fleche Brabançonne and we call
it The Brabant Arrow ). We ought to find a Dutch-to-English
auto-translator so we can find "Windy".
- Next update will appear here sometime between today's morning
and afternoon stages of the Criterium International... (Updates
always appear at the top.)
- The Place Ducale in Charleville-Mezieres is
the start/finish site for the afternoon time trial in the Criterium
International . This beautiful square is a smaller version
of the famous Place des Vosges in Paris.

- Stage 3, the afternoon 8.3km time trial stage, begins
at 14:00 CET (8am U.S. Eastern). The last rider is scheduled to
depart at 16:00 CET (10am U.S. Eastern) but that time may change depending
on how many riders are still in the race after the morning stage.
- Stage 2, the morning climbing stage, gets underway
at Les Vieilles Forges (Les Mazures) at 08:10 CET (2:10am U.S.
Eastern), a full 30 minutes earlier than last year. The peloton
will cross the bridge at Revin at approximately
08:27 CET (2:27am U.S. Eastern), then again at around 10:01 CET (4:01am
U.S. Eastern). The stage should finish before 11:00 CET (before
5am U.S. Eastern) on the climb at Monthermé. The riders,
team and race officials and spectators will then head down to Charleville-Mézières
for lunch and the afternoon time trial stage.

UCI Track Cycling World Championships video
streaming
Eurosport has been juggling its broadcast coverage today.
The track cycling events video streaming can be seen
here
. Seems to be a replay though, unlike yesterday's live
streaming.
Notes:
This weekend's Criterium International has limited
media coverage, with no live television broadcast today, even in
France. France Télévisions will have
some coverage tomorrow, Sunday. Later this weekend or on Monday
there should be some archived video clips of the race but
no live streaming is expected. For those of you in the U.S.,
Versus will have a broadcast on Sunday.
Eurosport continues its coverage today of the UCI Track
Cycling World Championships. There was live streaming video
yesterday and we expect there will be today as well. Coverage
is scheduled to begin at 19:55 CET (1:55pm U.S. Eastern). Stay tuned....
Criterium International
The Criterium International, for years held in the region
of the French Ardennes, offers beautiful scenery and a fan-friendly
event that includes a flat finish on Saturday in Charleville-Mézières
near the border with Belgium followed, on Sunday, by a tough climbing
stage in the morning to Monthermé and an afternoon 8.3km time
trial.

smaller races that may yield some of tomorrow's champions. Thanks,
Bernie!
- Eurosport continues its live coverage today of
the
World Track Championships
on the island of Mallorca. It should begin at 18:55

. Sorry, not funny.
- The Accountant, er, adding to his own victory
total this season and an inspiration to desk workers worldwide, ended
Windy's win streak at two yesterday.
Alberto Contador with the stage win also took over the race
lead. Discovery Channel is on fire early this season.
Maybe they can interest a top accounting firm
in team sponsorship next season...
2007 Criterium International this weekend
The Criterium International will be held this weekend
in the beautiful Ardennes region of France. With
three stages over two days, this race has a little bit of everything:
a stage often reserved for the sprinters (Saturday), a stage in the
hills (Sunday morning) and a short, technical time trial (Sunday afternoon).
The official site is
here
. Riders expected at the start line on Saturday
include: Alexandre Vinokourov, Andreas Kloden, Alejandro Valverde,
Luis-Leon Sanchez, Bradley McGee, Damiano Cunego, 1999 and 2004 winner
Jens Voigt, 1998 and 2005 winner Bobby Julich, Frank Schleck and Juan
Jose Haedo. Wow. Also of note: Jonathan Vaughters'
U.S. Team Slipstream , without a title sponsor,
has an invitation and will line up for their biggest-ever race start.
The team is expected to include Kilian Patour of France and Danny
Pate, Craig Lewis and William Frischkorn of the U.S.
Start list
Ivan Basso won in 2006, meaning Team CSC has won
the last three editions and they will once again field one of the
strongest teams in the race. Discovery Channel is not
competing. ( US Postal last competed in 2004.)

Notes:
- Later today or early tomorrow, look for video clips
of today's stage
here
. The Vuelta a Castilla y Leon concludes tomorrow,
Friday. Our U.K. correspondent reports that Spanish local stations
are covering the races in Spain this season, apart from
the Vuelta, and that many of these local stations do provide live
streaming on the internet . That is why we are able to get
coverage for so many of these smaller races. Alas, with limited
bandwidth available... (Despite the problems, we should be thankful
these stations are providing any coverage at all. No one else
is doing so.)
- The live images may be breaking up but the great
demand is good news for the sport. We are seeing phenomenal
numbers of people following racing live on the internet
this season. And our U.K. correspondent Bernie S. just reported
in with the following snippet: "Italian TV figures from
this year's Milan-San Remo showed it to be the most popular ever. A total
of 3.2 million people watched it on TV, with an average of 2.014 million
in two hours" (source:
Procycling
)... Thanks, Bernie! Last Saturday was also
our biggest day ever, save for a couple of stages in the 2006 Tour
de France... Not bad for the month of March.
- Live video streaming of today's key stage of the
Vuelta a Castilla y Leon has begun. Expect very heavy access
causing interruptions in the image. Perhaps the always amusing
Google-translated live ticker will make things a bit easier...

- Francisco "Windy" Ventoso (Saunier Duval-Prodir)
won again, taking yesterday's stage 3 of the Vuelta a Castilla y
Leon. Vladimir Karpets (Caisse d'Epargne) remains
race leader going into today's big mountain stage. The Discovery
Channel team is by far the best-placed team with six riders in
the top ten and can be expected to be very aggressive.
- The
World Track Championships
get underway today on the Spanish island of Mallorca
and will be held through Sunday, April 1. Eurosport
is covering this event live. Coverage is scheduled
to begin today at 20:40 CET (2:40pm U.S. Eastern). At minimum
there will be live audio streams . If video streams
also go live, we will post links here.

has begun.
- 15:36 CET (9:36am U.S. Eastern): The Vuelta a
Castilla y Leon live video stream should begin
any minute now...
- Discovery Channel brought by far the best team
to this race: Ivan Basso, Janez Brajkovic, 2007 Paris-Nice winner
Alberto "The Accountant" Contador, Tom Danielson, 2007 Tour of California
winner Levi Leipheimer, Egoi Martinez, Jason McCartney and Sergio
Paulinho. Those 8 riders are all within the top 14 positions
of the general classification after yesterday's time trial. On
paper, this team should be able to blow the race apart on
Thursday's mountaintop finish
.
- Vladimir Karpets (Caisse d'Epargne) won yesterday's
Stage 1 time trial and is race leader. Egoi Martinez of Discovery
Channel was second at 2 seconds back and Karpets' teammate Florent
Brard was third at 3 seconds.

Notes:
- We have now added a French-language Eurosport
live video We weren't kidding when we suggested
last season that Eurosport would start getting into live video streaming
in a big way.
- We have added a Spanish-language Eurosport live
video stream . If necessary, you can mute the audio
in your media player and select one of the Eurosport audio feeds
for the language you want separately. The audio feeds of course
have gone live.
- Milan-San Remo Live Video
Flash: The first live video
stream has now gone....live! More to come...
- 14:00 CET (9am U.S. Eastern): The Eurosport
live streams should be beginning in about an hour, at 15:00 CET
(10am U.S. Eastern). If we notice anything that goes live earlier,
we will post it here.
- Our next update here will be after 12:00 CET (7am
U.S. Eastern). The most recent notes are always posted at
the top.
- This morning's L'EQUIPE (French sports
daily) lists 2006 Milan San Remo winner Filippo Pozzato as its only
3-star favorite for today's race, with Petacchi, Bennati and Freire
as 2-star favorites. The 1-star favorites are Boonen, Zabel,
Hushovd, Bettini, Ricco, and Ballan.
- You will find today's start list
here
.
- The various Milan-San Remo tickers will be
live well before the television broadcasts begin.
- Access to video and audio streams for today's
race is expected to be very heavy. If you understand commentary
in a language other than English, do consider listening along in that
other language as the English-language audio stream tends to be in
greatest demand.
- Eurosport's broadcast of Milan-SanRemo is
scheduled to begin at 15:00 CET (10am U.S. Eastern). There
should be live Eurosport video streaming at
around that time. We also have some leads on alternative video
streams and will post the links if and when they go live. We will
update the links and comments here during the race, as necessary.

Live coverage of Milan San Remo
The first big one-day classic of the season, Milan-Sanremo,
will be held this Saturday, March 24. Eurosport will of course
be broadcasting it live. It is also expected that they will
have live video streams of the race on the internet, though it
is unknown at this time what, if any, country restrictions will apply.
There will be live audio streams and tickers of course and we
will hunt down Eurosport or other sources of live video streams and webcasts.
Stay tuned...

English commentary: If you only hear audio and don't see
a picture, then click the Full Screen button. Alternatively,
you can watch the German commentary video stream, mute the sound
in your media player, then select the live audio stream you want separately.
- As we said recently, Eurosport is moving more
into live video streaming this season,
which is of course great news. A lot of people who are into
cycling seem to be into other "alternative sports" as well.
- The Eurosport video streams and individual audio
streams are live.
- Matteo Bono (Italy) of Lampre-Fondital won yesterday's
tough stage and Andreas Kloden (Germany) of Astana took over
the race lead, by just 3 seconds over Kim Kirchen (Luxembourg)
of T-Mobile. Kloden's teammate Alexander Vinokourov is
12 seconds back. Tyler Hamilton (USA) was among the riders
who did not finish yesterday's stage.
- Those of you in the U.S. and Canada can have
your breakfast while watching women's curling. The Tirreno-Adriatico
broadcast on Eurosport is scheduled to begin at 15:00 CET (10am
U.S. Eastern) with about 15 minutes of highlights of yesterday's
stage followed by the live broadcast of today's stage.
